What's this all about?

This section of the Go Local Tacoma website will help you look at local shopping in a new way. It is sponsored by Go Local Tacoma and powered by Serra Media, a Tacoma-based technology company. It is an example of the growing trend in online social shopping.

The website makes it easy for you to share shopping finds with other users. A great bargain or a cool product at a local boutique can easily be added to the site. Then other users can visit the site and navigate to their favorite neighborhood to see what cool stuff their neighbors and other users have found and shared.

How do I use it?

Click the neighborhood regions on the left menu to find your neighborhood. Select a neighborhood to see deals and where the items are located in our region.

Or click on the categories farther down the left menu to display items from a particular topic like food & drink and for the kids.

You can add your own deals by clicking the big Share button on the homepage and filling out the simple form. You can also discuss the deals in the comments section below each deal.

You make it better

The more information you share on this site, the more helpful it will be for finding deals and saving money in the South Sound.

How to add a post:

User accounts: Create an account if you don’t have one. Click “Login” from the box in the top right. It's not required, but will allow you edit the items you create and vote for items to appear under "This is Cool" on the homepage. You can also use your Facebook user information to log in.

Create content: Click on "Share" in the middle of the homepage. Enter the Title and Info and choose a Category. Enter a link to a website that people can visit for more information. Upload an image if you have one. (Posts with photos are much more attractive.) Enter the Location so it will show up on map. Then click Save.

Do I have to register?

No, but we do invite you to register and it's as painless as we could make it. Once you create a user profile you can track the items you submit and others will be able to follow your activity, too. Plus you'll be able to vote for our "This is Cool" feature on the homepage.

Click Login and enter a username, a password and an email address and you're good to go. Or use the Facebook Connect link to log in with your Facebook ID.

This is Cool and Member Showcase

How do you get a post featured with a big photo on the homepage? Registered users vote for posts under This is Cool, while Go Local Tacoma members vote for Member Showcase. Only Go Local member businesses are eligible to be featured in Member Showcase.

Community Zeitgeist

This section displays the tags that users have created to further classify content. If you are logged in, you can create tags for content, too. Or you can click on one of the tags already created to see what items have been tagged with that term.

Local Q & A

This section is for asking and answering questions about local business. Don't know where to find that unique item? Wonder where other shoppers park in a particular neighborhood? Use this section to seek and share local knowledge.

Add your Facebook and/or Twitter account

Whenever you upload a new item to share with the community, you can also post it easily to Facebook and Twitter. To connect with your Facebook account, simply click the Connect with Facebook logo when you log in.

Then click on your the Profile link in the upper right and add a username and an email address (don't worry, no spam!) and a password.

To post content directly to Twitter, you start by creating an account on this site (you only have to do this once.) Click "Login" in the upper right. If you already have an account, click on the "Profile" link.

Once you have created an account, you will have several options to customize your profile. To add your Twitter account, click on "Edit" and "Twitter accounts."

Then fill in your Twitter username and password.

Now, whenever you post something new to this site, you'll see an option at the bottom of the submission page to post a link on Twitter. You can edit the words "New post:" if you want to give it a different message.
